The location was fantastic for the Dunkirk celebrations - most of the staff were very friendly and helpful. The lady at breakfast was a delight and greeted everyone with a very friendly smile. The room was comfortable but in need of a complete refurbish.

The smell of smoke as you walk in the front door is so strong and puts you off from the start. We arrived very wearily at 10pm and were greeted by the most unfriendly receptionist I have ever come across. She stared at us, was rude and then proceeded to shout to her colleague in French. Luckily another charming lady came over and with a big smile gave us all that we had asked for - a pull up bed in the room. She saved the day as we were ready to walk out after such a rude welcome. Dont be put off by this one lady - the rest of the staff are lovely but she totally ruined our stay.

It was near the Yacht club for the sailing

I wanted a hotel with parking, bar, restaurant that was clean, comfortable and peaceful at night. This hotel ticked all the boxes with the exception of peace. Hardly slept a wink with a 7hr drive the next day

Taxis drivers park in the street talking loudly whist waiting for fares. However i have stayed in the Ibis and the Boral in Dunkerque and this hotel was far better albeit tired and dated. Because of the noise outside with the drivers i cannot recommend this hotel which is a shame.

The staff were helpful and the room was the best item overlooking the river/canal.

Could have done with more pillows (which we should have asked for) some rooms should be smoking rooms to cater for all customers.

I really found it hard to find any redeeming feature of this hotel. The room was fairly big for a 2 star hotel.

It was very heavily soiled with the smell of cigarette smoke, even though it was a no smoking hotel. Even for a 2 star hotel the quality of the lifts, state and age of the bathroom and smell were unbearable. I can say genuinely I have stayed in much better hotels for less than half the cost and feel ripped off.

      warm welcome

the hotel is subject to a massive rebuild would give it a miss until this is over

Hotel is overpriced. It is extremeley shabby - chipped bath enamel, loose toilet seat, cheap furniture in the rooms. Parking was closed due to renovations - no warning was given of this. Renovations were mentioned but hotel should be more specific about their effect and reduce prices while in progress.

its a bit old and tired and has building works going on

The staff were all very pleasent and welcoming

We should have been told that the Hotel at the moment is a building site!! No mention was made about this at all in the search and booking process and it looks like it will be for some time yet. There was no parking as the carpark was taken with builders materials and equipment, and all near by parking is allocated to other premises. When I did find somewhere to leave the vehicle it ended up covered in concrete dust and debris. We picked this hotel so we could book in early and rest up before continuing our trip the next day, needless to say the building noise stopped this.

Good portside location for overnight stay. Good breakfast provided and pleasant but retricted evening meal.

The hotel is being renovated and was a building site. We were amazed they were still taking bookings. We were offered no discount for the inconvenience. The decor was dated and very shabby in places and the hotel was noisy/not well sound proofed. Luckily we had only booked one night.

Location for the city centre was good but Dunkirk a small place so not a lot going on. Most attractions seemed to be on the seafront which was little way from the hotel.

The hotel was a throwback from poor 1960's designs and was undergoing a maintenance programme whilst we stayed there. In consideration of this it was very expensive and were sure other hotels in the area would of offered more for the same or less money. Nothing particularly bad about the hotel apart the price and poor interiors.

there is biulding work going on so was difficult to park, room right above reception door where taxi drivers having a cigarette kept me awake all night talking loudly, toilet didn't flush properly and plug in sink got stuck

Nothing except the proximity to the harbour and beach.

I did not like the fact that we were not advised before booking that the hotel had major building work being carried out during our stay. The lobby area was full of scaffolding and builders wielding acetylene torches when we arrived. Also, hotel staff appear to tolerate guests smoking as cigarette smoke could be smelt in our room at one point in the evening despite smoking being prohibited throughout the hotel. We stayed here 3 years ago when the price seemed fair, but it no longer represents good value for money.

    • Older travelers
      4.6

The first impression of the hotel was of being a building site, complete with holes in the walls in reception with no apology received. Refurbishment of the hotel was being undertaken in this area and outside. Meanwhile the rest of the hotel was scruffy, poorly decorated which included almost threadbare carpets with no doortreads. The room was old fashioned and dowdy, the bedding was clean although there were cigarette burns in the bedspread. The bathroom was tatty with a dirty toilet and no bath plug the overbath shaower was insuffucient as most of the water leaked out of the pipe and joints mainly over the bathroom floor. In our opinion the hotel was excessively overpriced in comparison to other 4star hotels in europe charging the same.

    • Older travelers
      3.2

Nothing, this has to be one of the poorest hotels we have ever stayed in

Even given that the hotel is undergoing some renovation there are too many issues to mention here
